Today my joy meter is nearly off the charts. The sun is shining here in Northwest Washington with the perfect temperature of 70 degrees and a light breeze. In just a couple hours my handsome husband will be home from teaching his last school day of the year and our summer officially begins.
I’m celebrating with strawberries from Spooner Berry Farms. I bought this huge box of local strawberries this morning for $19. At first nearly $20 for strawberries sounds expensive but it has 12 pint containers – each about one (1) pound each – I weighed them. From what I can figure it’s about 12 pounds of strawberries and that’s only $1.59 a pound. Oh and they are so good and LOCAL. Love it.
I’m going to freeze some of them for smoothies and make strawberry jam with the others – that is if I can get to them before my children eat them all.
How are you celebrating summer?

This is so exciting! We have been waiting to get fresh local berries. We are going to go check them out this weekend. Do you have any favorite jam recipes you can share?

The opening of the Spooner’s by our house marks the beginning of summer for us.
We saw the governor there a couple of years ago. Every time we stop now my daughter asks if the governor is going to be there.

We got our first Spooners berries this weekend & they are so good! We’re going to be going back for more soon & supposedly their fields will be open for picking near us very soon! Can’t wait! We could eat these berries all day – they’re just that good! I didn’t know they had a stand down near your area.
