I mentioned this morning that my primary goal for March is to preserve memories. Basically I have a whole lot of sentimental items in boxes and a ton of photos on my computer – and I can’t really fully appreciate any of it the way it is now. Today I went to Michaels and scored some amazing bargains that I wanted to tell you about! Many of the deals end tomorrow, March 1 because of the way the ad runs.
Today only, March 1, Michaels has a printable coupon for 25% off your entire regular priced purchase! And you can save 50% off any regular priced item! I learned today that you should just have the cashier scan all the coupons – the computer will automatically apply the 50% off coupon to the most expensive item. How cool is that?!
Through tomorrow, Michael’s has photo boxes for only $1.99, which is 50% off the regular price. I picked up eight regular sized boxes. My initial plan is to use them for organizing my photos and to store special items that might not fit into scrapbooks. I found one with a Statue of Liberty on it that I plan to use to hold all the memorabilia from our trip to New York we won in 2011. I bought lots of plain colors because I plan to decoupage them based on what’s inside. I also bought two flat photo boxes for $3.59 on sale from $9.99 – they are 12×12 and I think they’ll make great memory boxes as well.
I picked up some Mod Podge for my decoupage projects and used the 50% off regular priced item coupon to get it for just $4.50 and the little sponge brushes that I like to use with it were only $0.07 cents each, on sale thru tomorrow (normally $0.49 cents each!). I love me some Mod Podge. I’m not particularly crafty – but a bottle of this is EASY to use and you can do all sorts of things with it. Seriously – if you haven’t used Mod Podge yet – do yourself a favor and pick some up. You’re welcome and don’t blame me when you find yourself creating collages on everything you own.
I found wooden letters for each of the kids and I plan to decoupage them with photos of them and hang them in their rooms. The scrapbook paper I bought was on clearance for $0.14 cents a sheet – but it’s also on sale, the whole aisle, for 4 for $1 through tomorrow, March 2. I also found plain wooden frames to decoupage for only $1 each!
I’m super excited for these mini frames I found on clearance – only $1.29 each. Regular price was around $3 or $4. I have some small wallet-size photos I’d love to frame and I thought these would also make great gifts!
And I found this princess frame on clearance for $4 (they had a whole end-cap of adorable frames for $4) and I am thinking about putting my daughter’s baby photo in here and hanging it in her room or putting the frame on her dresser.
Okay – let’s do this! I’m going to work on organizing my photos and going through what I have this weekend. I plan to make another trip to Michaels next week and I’ll be filling you on my projects as I go. Keep me posted if you plan to join me on this journey, I’d love to see what kind of creative ways your preserving your memories!

Have you ever made your own mod podge? I tried it for the first time over the holidays & thought it worked great!! Super easy to make & found it on Pinterest(of course) 🙂

Hollie – I have never made my own. It sounds messy. 🙂 I’ll look on Pinterest – thanks for the tip!

Great series for March…I am inspired to join you! Heather, what are you planning to do with all the digital images on your computer…print out the photos and delete the files, or print them and save the images on disk/jump drive? I never print any pictures out and I desperately want to get the images off my hard drive! What are your thoughts?
Heather says
Good questions Brooke. I’m a shameless shutterbug so I have literally THOUSANDS of photos – I think I had 10,000 photos of my son before he was one. It’s ridiculous. So frankly I’m overwhelmed. What I plan to do is:
* mass delete of blurry, bad or so-so photos
* back-up all photos onto a remote drive
* order prints of my absolute favorite ones – the ones that I would be crushed if they ever disappeared and I don’t want to trust technology on.
That’s my initial plan. But ultimately I want to have a bunch printed off so I can enjoy them and SHARE them!
Hope this helps!

Very cute ideas! I’m on the lookout for a multi frame collage frame to match the other ones on my wall. I’m also saving up prints to order if Snapfish does their penny prints this month. Any word on those?

Oooh Angela . . . collage frames are 50% off right now at Michaels! They have a lot to choose from! I posted a few Snapfish offers this morning, but the penny prints is for new customers only.
