Yesterday the blog was a bit slow with deals – I spent the first 4.5 hours of my day driving back from a little vacation (more on that later) and then we spent a good eight hours outside yesterday building this big ole box of a chicken coop!
It’s 6 x 12 feet – so it’s a big one. The entire coop is wrapped in heavy duty utility wire. The wire goes down at least a foot deep around the coop and then covered with paving stones and then buried. We live in an area with a lot of hawks and critters with a big field behind our fence – so we are taking extra predator precautions.
Today we hope to build the hen house (the top left corner), the door, the roof and a nesting box. It has a long way to go, but we’ve come a long way. Our chickens are arriving Friday – so we better get it finished.
I’ve been taking photos and I’ll do a detailed tutorial as soon as we are all done and settled.
If chickens aren’t your thing – don’t worry, my blog won’t continue to be all chickens all the time. It just happens to be the topic around our place lately. šĀ
I need your help – what should we name the coop? I think it needs a name.Ā

Where are you getting your chickens from? The coop looks great so far!

We are getting our chickens from friends! We are bartering for them. š Which is a good thing because our coop budget is a bit over. š
