The last four days have been such a blur! We started and finished a chicken coop and adopted five chickens. They spent their first night in the coop last night and we woke up to our first egg this morning! We still need to cover the hen house with some siding (anyone have any cedar siding they want to barter for?) – but it’s pretty much complete!
The first egg.
My son still sleepy-eyed and in his pajamas with the first egg. It was like Christmas!
I’ll post more later this week – introducing our chickens and explaining the process we went through to build the coop.

Anyone raising chickens, please do consider letting them out in your yard on a regular basis (though not in your garden–they’ll destroy it!). They love to eat greens and bugs and the moments of freedom will go a long way towards keeping them happy and healthy.

You might also look into cedar shingles for the side of your coop. We cut some down and used them on the side of our house!

Very cool Heather! Can’t wait to hear all the details.

Check the coop later in the day. They like to lay late morning. YAY YOU!
