"Lettuce" be glad and rejoice! We've grown food!
Today when we went outside to play we noticed it was time to pick our lettuce, bok choy and arugula. It was our first official harvest from our garden – a major milestone if you ask me, and I’m not sure who was filled with more joy – me or the kids.
I’m learning as I go and I still have a long way before I become a master at this gardening thing – but watching my kids eat the “fruits” of our labor seriously warmed my heart. I’ll try not to get all mushy on you – but I can tell you it was a special moment. In a world filled with gadgets, toys and television – there is nothing more wholesome (and rewarding) than tuning it all out, digging in the dirt, growing something of your own – and sharing it with people you love.

We harvested arugula, bok choy, lettuce and one radish. 🙂
Gardening is good for your "sole" - go grow something.

For those of you following my gardening journey you know I’m learning as I go grow.
- First I built the raised beds
- Then I added dirt
- Then I added plants
- and for fun, we created a DIY Worm Compost Bin
- and then Mavis came and gave me some advice – um, give your plants some room

The ‘lots of little holes’ on your Bok Choi is NOT slugs. It is flea beetles. Diatomaceous Earth and nematodes are THE answer for these nasty little things. Those or try a ‘trap’ crop like radish to divert them away. Note also they like peppers, potatoes, and tomatoes. The one that they can totally destroy is eggplant. It’s tough out there……
I’m not a real gardener, but my sister uses crushed egg shells to keep slugs away. Seems to work great!

Wow, the leaves look perfect…no holes from insect bites. My bok choi got holes all over the leaves from slugs. How do you control that?

Love filled with home grown organic or as close as the best greens! Grow healthy kids! by the way, I let my little one wear rain boots with me in the garden, when we are done, brush them off, then put our rain boots in a paper garden tray, saves time cleaning 🙂 Happy growing, Queen! check back soon – your fan for 18m.
