This is one cheesy deal – without any coupons required! I made an early morning run to QFC this morning and scored 10 bags of Kraft shredded cheese for only $3.90 or $0.39 cents each, with no coupons! This deal is super easy to do, here’s how it works:
Kraft shredded cheese, 8 oz – $1.39 each when you buy 10
Buy 10 for $13.90
Get two $5 catalinas ($10) off your next order, at checkout (see below for more info on catalinas)
Final price = $3.90 for ten bags of cheese
Per pound it comes out to $0.78 cents a pound!
If you can find Kraft blinkie coupons for $1/2 or $1/1 peelies you’ll get an even better deal. I didn’t see any at the Lacey QFC. I had a nice chat with the checker about the deal and I told him he should give the dairy manager a heads up to order more cheese! There was still plenty of cheese on the shelves, but because you have to buy 10 to make the deal work, I’m sure it will go quickly. So the checker said he’d pass the deal info along to the ordering manager and hopefully they’ll order a bunch of cheese.
If when you go you find the shelves empty, don’t despair – the price of the cheese lasts until 8/20 and the catalinas are supposed to go until 8/20 as well – so let’s hope we get a month of cheap cheese for everyone!
The cheese I bought today was dated until November, so still plenty of time to use it. But I’ve heard that shredded cheese also freezes really well – so this would be a great thing to stockpile. I’m also thinking this would be a great thing to donate to the local food bank – proteins are always needed.
I’ve also heard this deal is working at Fred Meyer, but the cheese is $1.50 is there, so you’ll pay $5 for 10 bags – still a great deal! You might have more luck finding peelies or blinkie coupons, I haven’t been to Fred’s this week. There is also a variation of this deal happening at Safeway this week!
More info on catalinas – If you aren’t familiar with catalinas, they are coupons that print at the register (pictured above). They print on register-type paper and are almost always triggered by something you buy. Ever buy Huggies and get a catalina for Pampers? Or buy a bag of Starbucks coffee and get a catalina for Tully’s? Catalinas are strategically programmed by the manufacturers.
Catalinas can either be for specific products like Huggies or Tully’s, or in this case, they are just a dollar amount off your next order. It’s like a $5 bill you can spend at QFC. There are some exclusions, like I don’t think you can use this to buy alcohol or tobacco, but for the most part they spend just like cash! They do have expiration dates – these expire 8/7 – so I have to make sure and spend them before then.
Sometimes these catalinas can be used to buy more of the same product. For example, I could possibly use these $10 in catalinas to buy 10 more cheeses, paying only $3.90 out of pocket for the next 10 cheeses and then get ANOTHER $10 in catalinas. . . this is called “rolling” a catalina, when you roll it back into the deal to get more product and more catalinas. I don’t know if these catalinas roll or not – I didn’t try it. This would mean you’d have to buy 20 bags of cheese (in two transactions) and this would clear the shelves really quickly! So I’m holding on to mine for my next shopping trip.
While I was at QFC I also stocked up on peaches and strawberries, both at $1 a pound!
Let me know if you have any questions or recipes that would be good for all this cheese!
(Thanks, Coupon Connections NW!)

Are you sure the price of the cheese ($1.39 each) is good until 8/20? I went to QFC today and they took down all the signs that stated $1.39 when you buy 10. Since I wasn’t sure they would honor the price without any signage, I didn’t attempt to do the deal.

I was under the impression at the time that I posted this deal that the price was good until 8/20 – but in looking at this week’s ad, I can’t confirm it. Sorry about the confusion, I’ll update the post! Thanks for taking the time to call this to my attention!
Did you find any other good deals while you were at QFC?

I hit the jackpot at Tacoma Fred Meyer on Saturday. The stocker clerk just got in a shipment. It was still in the boxes even. Plus, plenty of blinkies for me too. I was able to stock up on cheese. All FREE!! The stores have been out all week in my area. I was in the right place at the right time. Hooray.
Also, just another confirmation… I was buying 10 at a time and getting (2) $5 CATs.

I went to QFC but I stopped at Fred Meyers first (had to get the blinkies from a different one since the Tumwater one was empty)
use the blinkies and they become 89 cents each. Spent $8.90 on got two $5 catalinas. I then bought the same plus a QFC brand bag of hamburger buns and used the $10 plus 9 cents, got another two $5 catalinas. They said the restock every other day so the order will go in tomorrow and Monday they should have more cheese
I think if I can find more blinkies I might get more later since you said the price is good for a while and the last costco bag of shredded cheese I bought lasted maybe 2 weeks… Danny loves his quesadillas… and laughs at me when I ask for a tortilla with cheese… its called a quesadilla thank you very much!
glad I got lots of tortillas and froze them back when they were less than $1 even though I could only get a couple of the coupons to get some free I bought several other packs for the cheap price and we only have about 3 left…

Did you do this in just 1 transaction? If so, for every “5” cheeses you bought- you got the $5 catalina? I did my cheese purchases at Fred Meyer today, but seperated them into different transactions- each having only 5 bags. But it would be nice if I can combine them all into the same transaction but still get 5 cat for every 5 I buy. Do you know if this is the same for all catalinas?

Hi Ashley,
I did this in just one transaction at QFC, but I haven’t confirmed that it will work in just one transaction at Fred Meyer – so I’m not sure! So glad you got some cheese, isn’t it a great deal?

read this here the other day didnt have a chance to try it yet but it says it works at albertsons too
http://maybefrugal.blogspot.com/2010/07/stock-up-on-cheese.html
I used a couple of the $2 off produce coupons at albertsons yesterday and found a coupon by the salads for free naturesweet vine ripened cherry tomatoes 12 oz bag when you buy two bags of salad. the salads were 2 for $5 so $3 for two bags of salad and a bag of cherry tomatoes.
The second one I used for 4 peaches and 5 plums paid 16 cents total
Also there are $10 in $1 off coupons on one of the endcaps of soap, etc products they say supervalu coupon expires 8/31 so i dont know if they work for doublers i dont know what a supervalu coupon is or if they work at other stores but there is $1 off for colgate total toothpaste, any two colgate 360 toothbrush, colgate wisp 8 pack, irish spring 8 pack, irish spring body wash, speed stick or lady speed stick deodorant, soft soap body wash, soft soap liquid refill hand soap, two liquid hand soap pumps, two palmolive dish soap, and suavitel fabric softener.
if you see these let me know if you know are they good with doublers or at other stores or just for albertsons
