Safeway just released an updated version of their new coupon policy, this time specifying that competitors catalinas would only be accepting if they were for a specific product. This means you CANNOT use Walgreens Register Rewards or catalinas for specific amounts, like $5 off your next purchase which I had mentioned in my post when they updated their coupon policy June 6.
It was specifically #9 in the policy that was updated:
9. Safeway will accept valid Catalina manufacturer coupon that is issued to a customer by another retailer only if such coupon is for a specific item.
I still think the coupon policy is really generous to allow competitor’s catalinas for specific products. Most Fred Meyer stores have coupon exchange baskets that are a great source for catalinas! So make sure and check here for possible coupons to use at Safeway.
Also, it’s always a good idea to print out the latest coupon policy and bring it with you in case you or the cashier have any questions. Be patient with your cashiers, who might not have all the latest information that you do on the current policies. Never try and “get away” with anything that the coupon policy doesn’t allow – it’s illegal, hurts all coupon users and usually it’s the cashier who is punished.
(Thanks, The Frugal Find!)
