Since things have slowed down in the garden I thought I’d just share with you some photos from my backyard. It’s a gorgeous time of year and I love all the colors. I don’t know what this plant is – but it’s my favorite fall plant. I usually take back-to-school photos in front of it, but this year it was late to turn red thanks to our unseasonably warm summer.
View from the front of the plant. Do you know what it is?
And although I haven’t watered any of these flowering plants, they are alive and well.
Do you know what this mystery plant is with the beautiful white flowers? It looks kind of like Jasmine, but it can’t be because it doesn’t really have a smell. It has tiny white star-shaped flowers and climbs everything – like a member of the vine family.
Amelia steals a cherry tomato. They love them and I suppose I have enough to share.
Check out this purple pepper! It’s a beauty. 🙂
And here’s an orange pepper. Yum!
Check out this pumpkin, it’s growing so fast!
We moved an old composting container (from the previous owners more than two years ago) and found this MASSIVE ant hill. You can’t really tell by the photo, but this this was the Mother Ship. We have had some major ant issues in our yard this summer and now we know why. Crazy huh?
If you’re just now joining my gardening journey, I’m learning as I go grow and sharing along the way:
- First I built the raised beds
- Then I added dirt
- Then I added plants
- and for fun, we created a DIY Worm Compost Bin
- Our first harvest, lettuce rejoice and be glad
- The garden is part of our quest to be more self-sufficient this year. We also recently got chickens! See our chicken journey here.
How’s your garden doing?
Beth Johnson says
Now that it’s exposed, are the “ladies” enjoying the anthill?
Heather says
It’s tucked way in the back of the yard, so the chickens haven’t discovered it yet. 😉
