I came back from Georgia to a wilted and withered pumpkin plant. It just threw in the towel one day and decided it was done. We had about a 4- or 5-pound pumpkin on the end of the vine that we harvested and put on the front porch. I am hoping it turns orange. I can’t wait to plant pumpkins again next year – they were so much fun!
I didn’t spend too long crying over my pumpkin plant – I had too many ripe tomatoes to harvest! What a bounty. I don’t know how many pounds I harvested, but enough to fill a colander 12 inches across. They are gorgeous. I still don’t know what I’m going to do with them – but I need to decide soon!
I also picked all the peppers, which probably weren’t quite ready, but I didn’t want them to freeze and be ruined. Aren’t they beautiful? I think this pretty much wraps up the summer growing season for me. I need to pull out all the plants for the winter and I’d really like to plant some garlic.
I don’t know if I’ll post any more Saturday in the Garden articles until next spring – but I will continue to share chicken stories and any work we do in our yard this winter so stay tuned!
