When you live and travel full-time in 30-foot Airstream trailer, you don’t have a need (or room) for luggage. But we happen to be flying home to Washington for a short visit – and we needed luggage to pack our clothes! I scoped out brand new luggage and duffle bags – and even on sale they were much more than I wanted to spend. We have perfectly fine luggage back in our storage unit in Washington but it doesn’t do us any good here on the other side of the country.
So today we went thrift shopping to find some luggage for our trip home! Lucky for us there are quite a few thrift shops in the city where we are staying right now and the third thrift store was a charm! I found two LL Bean rolling luggage bags priced at $24.99, but 50% off today!
I paid $12.50 just per bag. They are nice, big, sturdy and very clean – no visible pet hair or stains – and the telescoping handles and zippers work great. I checked out the LL Bean website and similar style bags (sizes) are retailing for $200 – $300 each!
One tiny carry-on rolling bag at Walmart would have cost us $39.99! What a difference it makes when you can find quality items that are gently used. Now maybe it won’t sting so bad when I pay $25/bag to check the bags at the airport (ha!).
What type of items have you found secondhand lately? How do you save by purchasing items gently used? Leave a comment and let me know!
