We are having company over this weekend, so these are items I bought for entertaining. These aren’t things we’d buy on an everyday basis – but there is a way to buy specialty items and still save money!
Boursin cheese spread – $4.99 – This stuff is amazingly delicious – love it!
Used $1.50 peelie
Final price = $3.49
Dare whole grain crackers – $3.29 a box (regular price) but on clearance 50% off – $1.65 a box
Used $1/2 tearpad coupons (got these at Fred Meyer about a month ago)
Final price = $1.15 a box! I bought four of these. These will go great with the Boursin cheese, the Sargento cheese (and with the Athenos hummus I scored for $0.75 cents each at Fred Meyer a couple weeks ago!)
Guacamole mix packets – 2 for $1
Now I gotta find cheap avocados for some dip. . .I’m thinking Grocery Outlet.
Deschutes seasonal ale 12 pack – $12.88
This is definitely a splurge – but it was on sale from $15.99! Plus, it’s for the entertaining we plan to do this weekend.
I had over $5 in overage from my e-coupons! This is proof that you need to start uploading your e-coupons – they are an awesome way to get FREE stuff and have credit toward the other things you purchase. Read E-coupons Explained toΒ learn everything you need to get started with e-coupons.
I used $18 in catalinas ($8 in register rewards from the Schick/toothbrush deal this week and $10 in Safeway catalinas from the Ziploc deal that ended 6/15). I only paid $8.89 out of pocket (the beer itself was $12.99)!!
I think I’ll be more likely to do Walgreens deals now that I can use Register Rewards at Safeway, because I always struggled with how to use the Register Rewards at Walgreens and often found myself buying stuff as fillers or things I didn’t need because I had the Register Rewards. When I can use them on groceries it makes it so easy and I don’t feel like I’m using my “profit” on fillers and items that I didn’t need. π
What about you? Have you used competitor’s catalinas at your local Safeway yet? Do you use e-coupons?

There are avocado coupons in the Build a Better Burger hts on select Sutter Home wines, although they have to be California avocados.

Yesterday I used 3 $10 RR Neutrogena from Wags @ Safeway and it worked…not smoothly, but it worked. I had to speak to the store manager and show her the print out of Safeways new store policy highlighting #8 & #9. She said, “if it scans, I will honor it.” When the moment of truth came, I was glad that it scanned but it needed her override. Her assistant manager questioned the transaction and said I couldn’t use all 3 RR in the same transaction. But I argued that my coupon to item ratio was way below (6 coupons/15 items)and that I should be able to use all 3 coupons. OMG, he mocked me by saying, “coupon to item ratio, seriously?” The manager read my Wags catalina and found no argument and approved the transaction. Pheewwwww, to be honest, I was sweatin bullets but am glad I stood my ground. I got meat, eggs, milk, fruits, salad, and more for $5 oop…SCORE!
question: the cashier wouldn’t ring up a store Q for clorox with a manufacturer Q from Sunday paper because she said I was stacking. I thought using store and MQ is not considered stacking like in Target or Walgreen. I reread Safeway’s policy and couldn’t really find a statement on this. Is she right?
Heather says
The cashier should have allowed you to use a store and manufacturer coupon. This is totally legit. The store coupon will still be reimbursed by the manufacturer for the manufacturer coupon. I use a combination of a store and a manufacturer coupon all the time – it’s one of the easiest ways to make a great deal! I don’t see anywhere that it specifically addresses it in their coupon policy (it really should) but I’ve never had a problem with it.

I used 16 $2 Cats today at Safeway! I love getting good stuff for free rather than 4 boxes of Kotex, 10 toothbrushes, yada yada yada. Don’t get me wrong … paying almost nothing for stuff and getting RR’s to boot is good, but getting free chicken, vege’s, etc. is awesome!
Heather says
Hey Rob, I agree it’s nice to put the catalinas toward things like meat and veggies!
Kat says
Heather, did you have any problems using those Walgreen’s catalinas? I’m a little nervous to try it…
Heather says
I didn’t have any problems using Walgreens Register Rewards. I only used two $4 ones. I have heard from some people that stores have allowed one per transaction, but then I’ve heard from others who have been able to use many. So I think your mileage may vary on this one. Only time will tell on this – I think Safeway is still figuring this one out.

I have a question- you put “cellfire #1/#2″…. how do you load more than 1 cellfire “deal” on your card? And how do you get 2 to come off of 1 item? I just signed up for these… sorry for the ignorance :)!
Heather says
Hey Ashley, Great question! I use the #1, #2 to signify how many e-coupons I have loaded onto my card. They come out every couple weeks and you can accumulate them. All the e-coupons you have will come off at once, when you buy the required product! Read my E-coupons Explained http://queenbeetoday.com/e-coupons-101/ to get a full tutorial on e-coupons – let me know if it helps or if you have other questions.
Ashley says
Oh thank you- that makes sense!!!

okay I just got back from Safeway with my haul. I am all out of printer ink, so i couldn’t do the printable coupons, but I got the yogurt, the nature valley granola bars and the Wheaties for free. and paid .89 for a 40 oz box of Bisquick. I saved $30.26 on my groceries today! I have a pic, but don’t know where to send it to to show you! thank you so much for the heads up on these deals!
Kim says
If you do go to Grocery Outlet, don’t forget your $5 off $25 coupon from coupons.com to make that trip a real deal!
Heather says
Yes, thanks for the reminder! I have it printed out. I’ll let you know if I find any good deals!

I also went to Safeway LAST week when they had that meat on sale BOGO. I had just come from albertsons with the $5 Catalina from buying the Land O Lakes butter. I asked if I could use it, and she was unsure, but asked her boss and was surprised she could use it, but she was very nice. Two weeks ago I went into Safeway and ended up saving $147 off my total with the ecoupons and the paper coupons, so she calls me “the coupon girl”
I ended up getting 2 packages of family pack ranchers reserve steak, 2 packages of family pack porch chops, 2 18 count eggs, 2 bottles of marinade, a 4lb brick of cheese, all for $30. Which is a good deal to me, if you figure in the meat.
Heather says
Awesome job Robin! Meat is a big expense – sounds like you did great!
Donna says
I’ve just started using the cellfire and shortcut ecoupons. Do you get credited for each coupon loaded onto your card or do you get credit for one cellfire and one shortcut? Thanks for posting your deals.
Heather says
You get credit for ALL coupons on your card! For example, if you have multiple e-coupons for $1/1 you only need to buy one item to get ALL the coupons to come off. If you have multiple coupons for $1/2, you’ll need to buy two items for all the coupons to come off. Does that make sense? The more you do it, the more you’ll figure it out.
