I stopped into Safeway today to pick up a few things and found myself with all kinds of deals! My main purpose for going was I received a coupon in the mail for a FREE Oscar Mayer Selects hot dog – and Safeway had them buy 1, get two FREE. I ended up with THREE free! Also I had some awesome Just for U prices, so I was able to use those to get some other great deals.
Just for U is a new Safeway program that provides personalized pricing and deals based on deals that you’ll like – based on your shopping history. You load the special pricing to your shopper card and it comes off automatically at checkout! If the store sale is BETTER than your Just for U pricing, the computers are set up to give you the BEST deal. Read more about the Just for U program here – you’ll get FREE eggs just for signing up.
I also got a few other deals. . . .
Oscar Mayer Selects hot dogs – $3.99, buy one get two FREE
Used a FREE Oscar Mayer Selects coupon that I received in mail from this promotion
Final price = all THREE for FREE
I love to hold on to FREE coupons and wait for a buy one, get one sale – which would snag you two FREE. But this was even better – buy one, get TWO free. I used my FREE coupon on the one I was buying for a total of three FREE!
Dr. Pepper TEN – $2.29
FREE with catalina coupon that I had from a previous shopping trip
Bush’s Grillin Beans – $1.59
Used two $1.50/1 Bush’s Grillin Beans printable coupon (no longer available)
Final price = $0.09 cents each
Barilla pasta – $1.25
Used one $1/1 Barilla pasta printable coupon (no longer available)
Final price = $0.25
Safeway Kitchen Hamburger Buns, 16 count – $1.99 regular price
Used 50% off Just for U offer (available for some customers, check your offers)
Plus $0.50 Safeway e-coupon
Final price = only $0.49!!
I think only one of these Safeway coupons should have come off? But this is a CRAZY good price for a package of 16 buns!
Chives – $0.79 each
Fresh Express salad mix – $0.99, Just for U pricing (available for some customers, check your offers)
Athenos Feta – $2.99
Used $1/1 tearpad coupon when you buy Athenos and a bagged salad
Final price = $1.99
Bananas – $0.49 Just for U pricing (available for some customers, check your offers)
Final price = $1.75
Precious Cheese – $3.24 with Just for U pricing (available for some customers, check your offers)
Plus used $1/1 Precious Cheese coupon from 4/29 Smart Source insert
Final price = $2.24
Bob’s Red Mill Unbleached Flour, 5 lb – $4.29
50% off discount, store markdown (not sure why? Expiration date isn’t for another year!)
Final price – $2.14
Avocados – $0.88 cents with Just for U pricing (available for some customers, check your offers)
Final price = $3.52 ($0.88 x 4)
Yellow Onions – Should have been $0.49/lb with Just for U pricing – but I ended up getting them FREE because cashier rung them up incorrectly (as sweet onions) so my Just for U price didn’t activate. I don’t think customer service generally gives stuff for FREE with price errors, but they did this time.
My total for all these items was $15.13 – PLUS I had a Safeway e-coupon for $3 off a $10 that came off (it must have counted the onions that I ended up getting FREE). Final price for everything = $12.13!
I did have quite a few Just for U prices that DID NOT come off right at checkout. Sigh. I know Safeway is working on this – but I did have to wait in customer service line 25 minutes to get it fixed – the store was busy! They were nice about it and I had over $10 in pricing errors, so that might be why they just ended up giving me my onions for FREE. It was helpful to have my Safeway app loaded up on my phone so I could show the customer service department what prices I should have received.
Here’s a visual of how your receipt should like – with Just for U pricing and manufacturer or e-coupons:
What kinds of deals are you getting at Safeway these days?

Safeway has an advertised Charmin TP deal for 10.99 wyb 2 for 24/48 dbl rolls this week. With 1 double P&G brandsaver $.25 and another $1.00 ecoupon (use 1 time rule), the cost is apx .21 a roll (if you divide by the b4 double roll quantity – not sure if that is how you price TP!?). Is this a good price on Charmin?

I am loving the new Just4U program…while I must say I have in the past not been a huge fan of Safeway due to their high prices and not so cooupon friendly ways. I have been shopping there a lot more often since this program began. Today I went and saved 61%, using only 3 manufacturer coupons. My total before club card and coupons was 96.37 total after was 37.69 whick included $12 of organic produce and $20.00 of Ranchers reserve meat. nd $11.00 of Lucerne cheese products. I also had bread, sausage, bacon toilet paper, mayo, organic milk, 4 individual slik almond milks, meat marinade rice, organic yogurt and frozen spinich. This program is a keeper and I really hope other stores follow their model.

I have to say I am loving the Just4U deals. Combined with e-coupons and club prices, they are making saving a lot easier. (No pulling out coupons, it all just adjusts). That said, my store won’t take printable coupons if they don’t scan, and so I end up putting back items if they won’t use my coupon, because even with the best print job the bar codes still look blurry.
