Can you believe May is just a few days away? I think May is a HOT time for sales and coupons. Lots of stock-pile friendly foods are generally on sale. Here’s what I’m predicting we’ll see on sale in May:
Gardening – With spring in full force we should see a lot of gardening and yard care sales, plus coupons! Sign up for email newsletters to your favorite local nurseries as well as the Home Depot Garden club to get coupons and specials in your inbox!
Cinco de Mayo – The first week of May you should see lots of sales on salsa, tortillas, enchilada sauce and chips! We should also see coupons to match with the sales. A lot of these products have long shelf lives and can be stockpiled to last you until the next round of sales! Mission brand (chips, tortillas) seems to put out coupons this time of year.
Memorial Day and camping – By mid-May we should see camping-friendly foods go on special. Things like hot dogs, buns, marshmallows, soda, chips and other camping goodies. We should also see things like bug repellent and sunscreen start to go on sale. Watch for discounts on grill-friendly meats (ribs, burgers, etc.) and we will hopefully see massive discounts on barbecue sauce and marinades. The last few years we’ve scored FREE barbecue sauce and I’m hoping the same is true this year.
Vegetables/fruit – The veggie and fruit sales should pick up with more products being in season!
Fred Meyer Founder’s Sale – Last year the Fred Meyer Founders sale was May 8 – May 14. It’s a popular sale here in the Northwest and avid Freddies shoppers always look forward to it. You can expect great deals on vegetable starts, fruit and vegetables and double or triple points! I hope they have Tillmook products on sale again this year, as well! See last year’s May Founder’s sale deals.
Another thing to note in May is the Annual Stamp out Hunger food drive on May 12, 2012 – this is a great opportunity to share from your stockpile! You should receive more information from your mail carrier before the event.
Disclaimer – This is based on following the sales the last few years. It’s not a crystal ball – so don’t quote me on this. Hopefully it gives you an idea of what to watch for!

Thank you for mentioning the Stamp out Hunger food drive! I am the webmanager for the Stanwood food bank and I know area banks are hurting this time of year – so many more clients are in need. Don’t forget too that personal hygiene items (soap, toothpaste, lady supplies) cannot be purchased with food stamps! Kid friendly items are also helpful.
