I’ve been wanting a TV stand for months. Our silly TV has been sitting on a window sill. I looked at furniture stores and grimaced at the prices. I don’t have the patience for Craigslist and I knew I didn’t want a bland, brown, particle board corner unit that wouldn’t last more than a few years.
Today at Goodwill I found the perfect TV stand. It’s 70’s retro. It’s made with real wood. No plastic on it anywhere. Metal legs. Sturdy. Funky knobs. $15. I snatched it right up, like a long lost friend. And if I ever decide to, I can use it as a desk or a sewing table (I love furniture that works in multiple ways).
I came home and promptly cleaned and reorganized our entire living room so I could make our new friend feel welcome. About every three or four months I have to do this – rearrange furniture to change things up a bit and vacuum behind and under the couch and chairs. My living room feels brand new and is so clean now – all thanks to a $15 TV stand.
Moral of the story – don’t forget thrift stores for your every day bargains. Another person’s trash can be your treasure.
What treasures have you found second-hand lately?
p.s. Tacoma Goodwill stores has a Facebook Friday coupon for 20% off your $20 or more purchaseĀ (you can use it at lots of locations in Puget Sound!). Of course I didn’t plan ahead so I didn’t have a coupon. But can’t win ’em all.Ā

Last week at the Shoreline Goodwill I found a Cuisinart storage case with three blades that fit my processor- all in like-new condition. I looked them up on the Cuisinart website and the 4 pieces would have been $85 before tax and shipping, I paid $3.99 + tax. Score! š

I am on vacation in Hawaii and I stopped by the Goodwill and found out that Target sends all of their clearance stuff here. Goodwil sells it for $5 or less for brand new still tagged Target fashions. Most of it is stuff you cant wear on the island but great for rainy cold Western Washington. I definitely need a bigger suitcase.
