You can score some AMAZING deals with after Christmas sales. Here are a few of my tips. . .
Hold out, if you can
The initial sales will mostly be 50% off. If you REALLY want something, buy it at 50% off, but know that it will likely drop to 75% off very soon and possibly even 90% off. I try to wait and watch blogs to find out when things drop to 75-90% off, then RUN to the store. Sounds crazy, I know – but those savings add up!
Keep in mind, if you do buy something 50% off and you find it at the store for 75-90% off, most stores will do a price adjustment for you OR you can just return the item you bought at 50% (save receipt, unopened, etc.) and buy the one at 75% off.
Think outside the Christmas box
White, red or green tissue paper works great in gifts year round. Red plates or decorations are great for the upcoming Valentine’s Day! Green items are great for St. Paddy’s Day. Christmas-themed soaps, candles, paper towels, tissues, ziploc bags, GladWare – it works the same as non-holiday stuff and you can get it at the fraction of the price. We used Christmas saran wrap all year and I chuckled when December rolled around and I told my husband we are finally in season again! Green and red Rubbermaid storage containers are great to pick up – they store just the same year-round.
Stock up for birthdays and other occasions
Gift sets, toys, clothing – you’re going to see lots of rock bottom prices on stuff. Think about birthdays, weddings, anniversaries – and buy it now (if you have the money) and hold on to it until that special day. By buying when it’s cheap you save yourself from running out last minute to buy a full-priced item.
Stock up for next Christmas
Paying full-price for wrapping paper should be a crime. I always pick up wrapping paper at 75-90% off and I’m good for the next year. Same thing with decorations and Christmas lights!!! You never know when you Christmas lights are going to bite the dust – so buy some back-ups when they are 75% off and only a few dollars per box. I bought a six-foot $50 tree at Target last year for only $5 when it was 90% off!!!
Don’t forget online sales
Lots of online retailers are stuck with holiday merchandise and offer rock-bottom pricing online. I’ll be posting the deals as I find them!
Use your coupons, look for any sign of holiday AND price match!
While you are doing your after-Christmas shopping, make sure and bring your coupons (of course!!!). Look for any kind of sign that an item is a holiday item. For example, food that has green or red packaging or a toy that might have been a marketed as a stocking stuffer.
If the packaging or product looks like it’s holiday-themed AT ALL, scan it with the price checker – it could be on sale but not marked. This happens A LOT at places like Target, that have holiday themed stuff in every department – the good deals are most likely not going to have been moved to the holiday aisles.
Don’t go overboard
It’s so easy to get caught up in the good deal frenzy. Wrapping paper for only a $0.25 is an awesome deal, but do you really need 20 rolls? It’s not a good deal if you don’t need it – so be mindful of your needs vs. your excitement for the deal. š
If you find a great deal – send it my way! I’ll post it on here.
