Yesterday we stopped by George and Son’s Produce stand (Facebook page) to pick up some produce. We happened to be in the area and driving right by. We spent $21.54. I like shopping produce stands and I really like George and Son’s. They had some great deals – including $0.50 avocados!
Some of the highlights include:
- Avocados – $0.50 cents each
- Apples – $1.29/lb
- Yellow onions – $0.49/lb
- Celery – $0.89/lb
- Cilantro – big bunch – $0.99
- Corn – 3 for $1
- Cucumbers – $0.75
- Green onions – $0.50
We needed milk, so I paid $2.89 for a Smith Brother’s Half Gallon. Not the best price on milk, but Smith Brother’s is at least local and it saves me another trip to the store.
Possible meals: We will likely grill the corn and probably eat with burgers (with avocado!) or something on the grill. The celery, cucumbers, chives will go in salads, which we’ve been eating a lot of lately. Apples for snacks.
Prices vary by day. Check the George and Son’s Produce stand Facebook page for updates on specials!
See some earlier shopping trips of mine this week:
- Albertsons, spent $7.29, saved $45 – $7.29
- Grocery Outlet, spent $13.91 – $13.29
This puts us at only $41.17 so far this week! We have been eating a lot of items from our stockpile and our garden – which has saved us from a major shopping trip this week. Although I think I’ll probably go to the grocery store today or tomorrow and get some other staples.
Do you have a favorite fruit or produce stand?

Good to know! I’m by this produce stand a lot and have thought about stopping in, but hadn’t heard any word about it. Might have to check it out!

OK Queen Bee!! Here’s a little trick that I just picked up in regards to green onions!! I know you just planted a garden so you should be able to do this w/out any troubles. Use your green onions that you just purchased…leave an inch or two of the white bulb at the base of the plant..stick it in some water and watch those greens grow back! I’ve been doing this for a while and then stuck them in the garden…I just cut off the green onion that I need and then it grows back again! Great savings!!
