Good morning!
If you garden – have you started planning your garden yet? I feel like I should be developing a plan and ordering seeds. Last spring I got such a late start that I ended up buying a lot of starts, instead of beginning with seeds. I’d like to start with seeds this year to save money. It’s just so hard to be thinking spring gardens when there is a heavy layer of frost on the ground each morning! Do you have any tips for garden planning? Do you use any fancy heat lamps? I’ve seen reference to something like this – Hydrofarm JSV2 2-Foot Jump Start T5 Grow Light System on other garden blogs – do you think they are necessary? I’d love your thoughts!
If you are thinking about building raised beds – we love the ones we built last spring. They are very easy to build and inexpensive and we walk you through the steps in this Raised Bed Tutorial here. They came out to about $35 each and the food we harvested from them this past spring easily paid for that. I think we’re going to build at least one more raised bed before planting time this year.
Last night we finished season two of Downton Abbey on Amazon Prime! Thank you to everyone who recommended the series – it really is getting good! I’m contemplating pre-ordering Downton Abbey Season 3 from Amazon, right now it’s $29.99 and is comes out this Sunday, January 27, 2013. I think you can also stream through the PBS website, I need to do some checking on our options.
Yesterday there was a FREE candle promotion that was circulating through the frugal blogs. Although I didn’t post, many blogs did and it turned out to be a big ole scam. This is always a big concern for me – and I shared some tips for making sure Facebook offers are legit. I also shared tips for deleting old apps on your Facebook account, which is a great way to keep your account protected.

RECIPES & MEAL PLANNING
Yesterday I posted a recipe for Spanish Rice in the Rice Cooker. So delicious and incredibly easy. I love tricks like this for inexpensive foods that aren’t out of a box and can stretch your food budget.
I also made homemade cornbread and tortilla soup in the crockpot yesterday – both recipes will be posted later this week! I had never made homemade cornbread before and it was awesome.
We posted deals for Albertsons (doublers coming Sunday), Safeway and QFC in the last couple days. The grocery deals look great this week. QFC especially has some wonderful deals that start today – including eggs $1/dozen! Top Foods and Haggen deals will be up later this morning.
Don’t forget to check your Safeway account for new coupons! I had a coupon for $0.60 cents off/gallon of fuel when I spent $80. I’m not sure I’ll be able to spend that much – but perhaps you have an offer with a lower threshold! Can’t hurt to check.
