Good morning! So today is the Super Bowl. What time does it start? I have no idea. But I’m sure my husband does. Are you doing anything fun?
We had such a beautiful day yesterday that we spent some time working in the yard. It was LONG overdue. Big time. I’ll tell you more about that later. If for a moment you think I have it all together – you’ll realize that’s not true when I share later what I did yesterday that I should have done at least two months ago. Stay tuned, I’ll share some stories and photos about that later.
After being in the yard I got very jazzed about planning my garden for this spring. I know some of you have already done this (I probably should have too) but at any rate, I stayed up waaay too late looking at the Botanical Interests Seed Catalog that came in the mail this week, circling all kinds of goodness that I hope to plant. I’ll be sharing more about that later this week, too. Are you planning your garden? Going to plant anything new? Should I buy grow lights like these and start them in the garage? Last summer I didn’t build my raised beds until April – so I ended up buying a lot of starts from the Farmer’s Market. That adds up fast and I want to do seeds this year.
Did you see the chicken coop photos I shared yesterday? Sent in all the way from Worthington, Pennsylvania – it’s worth checking out.

FAVORITE DEALS
You can blame REI for a tardy Rise and Shine post this morning. I had to scope out the deals – today they have an EXTRA 30% off kid’s clothing and shoes! It’s nuts the deals they have. The Keen sandals I had previously picked up for my daughter at $13.83 are now only $8.93 – so I reordered and I’ll return my first order. $8.93 is a CRAZY good price and they’d make great gifts. See some of the deals here.
I should add, it makes me happy to find deals like this on high-quality products from a company with great customer service. Finding $2 sandals at Walmart is fine, but I’d prefer to pay a “little” bit more for a product that will last longer from a company that I believe will stand behind their stuff. If you’ve followed my site for any amount of time, you know I won’t always post the cheapest deals – because I don’t think it’s always about the lowest bottom line – not when you’ll have to replace them in half the time. My goal is always to find GOOD deals on high-quality products, for items you need, from good companies. That’s all I wanted to say about that. 🙂
Don’t miss this big magazine sale – today is the last day to get a bunch of my favorite titles for only $5 a year. If you buy 3+ subscriptions they drop to only $3.99 an issue! Great gift ideas! See magazines included in the sale here.
If you are a Bank of America account holder, and have a Bank of America debit or credit card, you can get into more than 150 museums for FREE this weekend, Feb. 2 and 3. As part of their Museum on Us program, the first full weekend of every month – just show your photo ID and your Bank of America/Merrill Lynch card to get in FREE at participating museums. With the Super Bowl – I bet the places will be much quieter today than normal. We used this program when we were in New York to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for FREE. Major savings for us!
