Rise and Shine 10/15 – My “old school” Goodwill find, Disney on Ice (Portland), Muk Luk boots 56% off

Good morning!

How was your weekend? We stayed busy at home and I enjoyed hearing the Northwest rain again! My son and I ventured out to Goodwill yesterday.

Please forgive the horrible photo taken with my phone. It’s really not so yellow. 🙂

We found an old kid’s desk, with a wood top, metal legs and a metal cubby on the left side. It brought me back to elementary school in the 80’s. 🙂 It needs some paint – the metal is a little rusty, but I bought it for $12. Cheapest (and sturdiest) desk I think I will find for that price! Plus I love that it’s OLD SCHOOL! And by old, I don’t mean ancient, I realize the 80s were not that long ago. 🙂

Any tips on sanding or painting metal? I also found some metal baskets to help organize my medicine/toiletries – because our hallway closet that holds these items has become unruly. Goodwill is a great place for containers for organizing – you just have to be creative!

After Goodwill, we went to QFC and I bought FIVE pineapples because they are only $1 each this week. They are smaller pineapples – but I weighed the “meat” after I trimmed them up and I got about 1.5 pounds from each one! That comes out to $0.67/lb – not too shabby! I diced up a bunch of them and put them on cookie sheets to freeze. Once they are completely frozen I’ll put them into Ziploc bags for baking or smoothies. I was worried about stock – but my local (Lacey) QFC has a ton of pineapples still in stock!

For fun we watched Spookie Buddies in the afternoon using the free $2 Amazon credit – so it was FREE for us to rent from Amazon! Sign up for Amazon Local and you can grab a FREE $2 credit to use on Amazon instant video! It’s completely free. See all $2 Amazon Instant Video Movies here.

What did you do this weekend?

COUPONS

There are a bunch of new movie coupons over at Coupons.com this morning. Click on “entertainment” to find them easily.

I had great plans to catch up on my coupon clipping after the kids went to bed last night. But I fell asleep immediately after reading the last book to my son at 7:30 p.m., so I still have lots of coupon clipping to catch up on! But I caught up on sleep, so that’s a valuable thing as well!

FAVORITE DEALS

Vistaprint is giving away FREE Holiday Labels for three days only. You can make address labels or make personalized gift tags! You only need to pay shipping which starts at $3.69. RECIPES & MEAL PLANNING

Let’s just say that my slow cooker has not slowed down at all this month – we have it working overtime trying out all these slow cooker recipes! The last few days we made macaroni and cheese (coming at 10:30 a.m. today!), baked potato soup, homemade chicken stock, and blueberry french toast – all in the crockpot. The recipes are coming this week – so check back every other day (on “odd” days at 10:30 a.m.) for the latest recipe.

Today at 10:30 a.m. PST I’m sharing a slow cooker macaroni and cheese recipe PLUS giving away a $25 Fred Meyer gift card – so check back then!

Beef roasts are 50% off at QFC – I picked one up yesterday for $6 when I was getting my pineapples. I need to get creative later this morning and get it in the crockpot before I take the kids to school.

My plans are to go to WIC this morning and when I return home to can my pineapple. I went and took advantage of the sale on Pineapple at QFC also. Although I bought 50 of them. I did this in June when they were on sale at Fred Meyer and I believe we have less than have of what I canned left. I do have to say I had a couple of store bought cans of pineapple laying around and when I was finished canning, we opened the store bought ones and did a comparison. You would not believe the color difference and the taste difference. We definitely won’t be eating store bought pineapple ever again.

I also have to comment on the desk. I remember those type of desks when I was in elementary and middle school. What an awesome find. I have been doing a lot of looking around Goodwill as of late also. We have gotten into refinishing furniture a little bit. Good luck with refinishing the desk.

50 pineapples! I bought 20 and people were looking at me like I was crazy 😉
The Everett QFC had SO many pineapples left! I’m really surprised they were flying off the shelves for that price:/

Just a comment on the desk. For painting, I have had great luck with Rustoleum. I had some hardware in my guest bath I was kind of “over” but I hated to replace it all. I cleaned it off and didn’t even need to sand it. I sprayed the Rustoleum on it and it turned out great. Antique Bronze to Brushed Nickel in two coats.
