Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy.
Good morning! How was your weekend? Mine went by entirely too fast! As I mentioned before, my little sister and her family were in town. We spent Friday night up in Seattle. Thanks to a KILLER deal on Hotwire we were able to stay at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel for $121 plus tax – it’s a FIVE star hotel and if you booked thru their site or called them you can’t seem to find it anywhere below $199 plus tax. The location is fantastic, the beds are like heaven and the customer service was top-notch (they upgraded us for no good reason at all). We skipped around to a couple Happy Hours all within walking distance:
- Sazerac restaurant – Happy Hour goes from 4 to 8 p.m. with appetizers and drinks starting at $4. We had a variety of appetizers. It is kid-friendly (we had my 5-month-old nephew with us and they were super accommodating).
- Von’s GustoBistro – Von’s is one of my favorite late night spots in Seattle. They are well known for their $5 martinis (they spin a wheel every 30 minutes to offer a different well-drink for $5). You must try their pizza. It’s made in a wood fire and the dough is made in house. We all split the Lardon And Apple pizza and it was amazing (Duroc Heritage Breed apple smoked slab lardons with true French Ewe Roquefort, green apple slices and dried Northwest cranberries). Not kid-friendly.
I wish I had a travel and food blog – on the cheap, of course. I love checking out new places and finding ways to see the world on a budget. Until that happens, you’ll have to humor my mini-reports like this. What did you do this weekend?
On Saturday we went to Ikea. Which I have a serious love-hate relationship with. I think I might write a post about that later this week – I did find some deals I wanted to tell you about. But I’m still recovering from crowds and the over-stimulation of the place – it’s too much of a good thing all in one place.
And Saturday night my sister left back to Alaska. Boo-hoo. If you have family that lives close to you – cherish it. It’s too easy to take that for granted.
