Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.
Good morning! I’m reporting from Walla Walla, Washington this morning! We pulled into town yesterday afternoon. After a few hours on the road we were eager to get outside and we walked around downtown – what a fun community! We are staying in an RV park – so the atmosphere isn’t nearly as charming when we look out our windows – but I am excited to have wifi, laundry services (badly needed!), cell phone reception and grocery stores. I love, love, love the beauty of being in the state parks – but I also love clean clothes and being able to Skype with family. 🙂
Yesterday afternoon we stopped and had a late lunch at a place called Graze – I was craving a big salad and this place didn’t disappoint with their Cobb salad! My husband had a Torta sandwich and the kid’s meals were only $3 each. It had rave reviews on Yelp and I can see why. Our dining out budget is going to have to be adjusted – we love trying out local restaurants and I can tell already that we’re going to be eating out more than at home. I’m not sure what that budget will look like, I need a few more weeks on the road to figure our habits and preferences and meal planning before completely settling in on a budget. And of course – we’re still being frugal where we can, especially on groceries.
Afterward we window shopped and then hit up the local Goodwill. You know how much we love thrifting! Although we don’t have room to buy much, my son needed some more shorts – he’s going through them so fast playing outside so much (a good thing!). So we picked up a Gymboree pair and a GAP pair – both $3.99 each. Score!
Last night the kids found a group of other kids in the campground (the same ages!) and they all played LEGOs at the picnic table at our site. So fun to meet people from all over the country – they were from Austin, Texas, a place on our bucket list.
We’d love to know your favorite things to see or do here in Walla Walla! We are here four nights and hope see as much as we can. Keep in mind that we’re heading into a major heatwave – probably record-breaking, so it could be interesting doing things outside.

Kim says
I really enjoyed Sweet Basil Pizzeria last time we went to Walla Walla. They have pizza you can buy by the slice and a cute little kids’ play area in the back.
Heather Clarke says
Kim – Pizza is my husband’s favorite! Thanks for the tip! 🙂
Anne says
Does your trailer have AC? I hope so! We didn’t have it (or really need it) in the Seattle suburbs but thank goodness we have it in the Portland suburbs! My phone predicts 106 for Saturday
Heather Clarke says
Hey Anne – YES, we have two AC units which seems to cool this place down in just a couple minutes. If we were in are ole house in Olympia we’d be sweating buckets. Grateful for this tiny, shiny house with AC. 🙂
Minette says
When I was a kid I spent time every summer in Walla Walla with family. There is some great outdoor pools at the local parks for some relief from the heat. The best little water park was just over the state line in Milton Freewater. I remember it not being far and a really nice little place.
Heather Clarke says
Hi Minette – Yesterday we went to Jefferson park and the kids swam in the outdoor pool for awhile – just $1 a kid – sweet deal! 🙂 We drove over to Milton-Freewater for a library program last night and drove past the the water park – looks awesome!
