Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. I share with you what’s happening with me – and I LOVE to hear about what’s happening with you.
Good morning! Happy Halloween! I just dropped a spiderman and a half kitty/half Doc McStuffins off at school. My daughter couldn’t wear her costume to school today, so we just did some whiskers and she wore the lab coat under her jacket. She’ll get to wear her full get-up later today. With my kids being 6 and 3, Halloween is a very exciting day in our house. We have a fun day planned during and after school.
In fact, I was telling my kids all about our fun day planned, while driving to school today, and I noticed the car in front of me slowed way down and pulled over on the side of the road. I thought it was strange, since there wasn’t anything there, so I slowed down – just in time to be feet from a huge buck (deer) standing right next to the road. I came to a complete stop and waited for the buck, who decided to leap back over the fence. But I’m certain that if that car hadn’t pulled over, I wouldn’t have seen the buck until too late. The person in the other car had already passed the buck (ha!) and didn’t need to slow down and pull over – but they did, on their busy morning. Most certainly to make sure the people in the cars behind them didn’t hit the buck. Thank you, kind stranger! And then, just minutes later, when I was trying to take a left into the school parking lot (a bear of a turn) I get waved on by a mom in incoming traffic. Kind people are all around us – but it’s so easy to focus on the people who cut us off, tailgate or complain. Feeling extra grateful today and have a bit more faith in humanity than before I left the house. 🙂
You can find the best Halloween Freebies and Deals here. There are a ton of restaurants doing promotions today, in case you don’t feel like cooking. Will you be taking advantage of any of them today? I did see that costumes were 30% off yesterday at Target (Facebook link). Maybe more today? I also got a few tips from readers yesterday on Facebook that Toys R Us was 50% off.
Did you see you can get FREE candy today? It’s today only. But it’s really easy and no coupons are required. Best deal we’ll see on candy ALL year!
Yesterday I had a ton of errands to do, so I was all over town. The kids and I stopped into Trader Joe’s. It’s on the other side of town, so I don’t make it in as much as I’d like. Every time I go, I wish I shopped there more often – even without coupons they have really awesome low prices. On good foods! I got organic colored peppers $1.33 each (non-organic green peppers were only $0.69!), Sunbutter $4.99, cage-free egg whites $2.99, refrigerated pizza dough $1.19, oh and don’t forget the wine deals. I even shared on Facebook that I found $0.99 Advent Calendars. I know it’s early – but they will probably sell out and it’s good chocolate, from Canada!
I also stopped by Target (West Olympia) and spotted a TON of clearance invitations – especially for baby showers! Deals so good, many 70-90% off, that I had to resist the urge to pick them up “just in case” or “just because” it was such a good deal. They also had air purifiers on sale 50% off, a few canning pots (30% off?) and art supplies.
I’m giving away a $300 Great Wolf Lodge gift card! I gave one away last July and it was such a big hit, I thought I’d do it again. It’s just one way that I can say thank you to my readers for choosing to visit my site! I’m so grateful for each of you.

glad you had a friendly morning. told husband how much your site saved me yesterday and he sees it a bit differently lol. Says your site cost him 300 dollars and he doesn’t like it one bit. Got the great wolf lodge groupon and a pair of boots each for my 14 and 15 year old at fred meyer. You don’t even know how cute the bearpaw boots I got them are and would have normally been 170 with tax for the 2 pair and I paid 69$….was awesome!
