Another beautiful Saturday here in the Northwest. This week isn’t very exciting in the yard. This morning I went out and collected six eggs from the coop, a handful of snap peas and probably two cups of strawberries.
Tomorrow I plan to harvest a big bowl of lettuce. We are having a big family party tomorrow and doing a taco bar. The lettuce will come in handy!
My radishes are rockin’ and rolling! I probably should have thinned them out. I pulled one out today and they are getting nice and big!
And lots of Cascadia snap peas! These are going to be delicious!
Onions are doing awesome. Although I have no idea how to tell when they are ready to pull. Need to Google that. š
Look at these tomatoes! It seems like they are forming really early in the summer – are they? I don’t remember what last summer was like. But I hope this means we’ll get an early tomato harvest.
I hope to take some chicken photos later this week. The babies are getting SO big and they deserve a little photo shoot. š
So that’s what’s happening in my backyard. Humor me and tell me what’s happening in yours. Ā Ā What’s going on in your yard this week?
Allow onion stalks to brown and droop. Then wait a few days to ‘harden’ in the soil. Then dig. Braid stalks and hang in dry place for about a week. They can then be moved to bag storage (cool, dark).
Thank you, thank you for the tips Julie!
Also , for storing sweet onions, drop one in the toe of an old nylon, tie a knot, and repeat until both legs are full, then hang in a cool dark place. keeps air moving around them , and even if one gets a bad spot, it isn’t touching the others. To use, just cut the nylon.
Currently, my kids are in the sprinkler š
