Today is Small Business Saturday! This last week we scoured the Internet looking for sales at small businesses here in the Northwest. We were looking for Small Business promotions this weekend and through the holidays. Unfortunately we didn’t have much luck through Google – so we’re hoping you’ll help!
I know we post a lot of big box deals here (it’s the nature of being a national website), but I really do believe that shopping your local small businesses can be a great way to fuel your local economy and support local entrepreneurs. You can get one-of-a-kind gifts and the whole experience is more fulfilling (I think) than pushing an oversized cart through an oversized store, buying overly hyped products.
If you know about a holiday sale at a local business in the Northwest (Washington/Oregon), if you know of one please leave a comment on this post! We’re looking for things like coupons, in-store events, and charitable opportunities! I’d also love to hear which local stores are your favorite and why!
Here’s are a couple examples –
I adore Bayside Quilting here in Oympia! I love walking into their store – the colors, the fabrics, the people working there, the inspiration I get from all the projects. AND they have regular events where they take competitor’s coupons! So you can get beautiful fabric for a fraction of the price. The quality just doesn’t compare to some of the fabrics you can get int he big box stores. You can sign up for their newsletter and get notified about all the in-store promos they do!
Olympia Local Foods just opened a store front here in Olympia! I’ve done a review for their online ordering (it’s slick!) and I can’t wait to make it over to their store! Open Fridays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 2010-B Black Lake Blvd SW (just south of Highway 101, across from Ken Lake) – it’s owned by friends Celia and Tom! They work with Northwest farmers to bring you fresh, locally-sourced foods and products at an affordable price.
Okay you’re turn. . .which small businesses will you support this holiday season? Do you know about an event or sale at a local business? Share your ideas!
p.s. If you own a small business, you’re welcome to leave your information as well.

Today I visited Debbie Macomber’s “A Good Yarn Shop” in Port Orchard, WA. I bought really nice wool yarn to ship to my daughter who is living in South Korea. The ladies who work in the shop are very nice and helpful. I highly recommend this shop!
P.S. There’s a really nice Tea House across the parking lot.
