Chicken-Coop-Amie-Oregon

Today’s chicken coop was sent in from Amie from Vernonia, Oregon. I think it’s gorgeous and look how simple they can be! It looks like it belongs in the Northwest the way it’s nestled into the green.

Here’s what Amie says about here coop:

My name is Amie and I have the most fantastic husband who built me a beautiful coop! My husband built the overall structure with a rustic metal roof, which sets off the coop really well.

We have chicken wire that goes a ways underground too, so that if raccoons or other critters try to dig under to get to the chickens, they’ll still hit wire and won’t be able to break in. I went a little overboard and put three different types of locks on the gate to fool any clever raccoons. We live in the country, and I worry critters will try to break in and get my lovely chickens!

The little hen house was bought off Craigslist, brand new for about $150 if I remember correctly. The chickens only go into the hen house to lay their eggs, the rest of the time they’re out roaming their spacious coop!

We raised our three chickens from itty bitty chicks, which I knew would be fun, but I never expected to love them so much as adult chickens too! It absolutely makes my day to go out and say hi to them, feed them table scraps, and see how many eggs we got. On average, we get 2-3 eggs a day. We actually still have to buy eggs sometimes because we don’t get enough from just our chickens alone.

We started this endeavor to get the eggs, but our chickens have added so much more to our lives than just eggs!

Thanks for sending in your coop photos Amie. It’s a beauty. I love the setting and the rustic roof is just perfect. Looks like it’s tucked in next to some raised beds and the kitty keeps a good watch on things.
