Only two shopping trips this week! Spent a total of $47.20 and have a remaining budget of $62.48 for the rest of the month. We’ve been doing a good job using items from our stockpile and have been trying to be good about smaller serving sizes – which is good for our waistlines and our budget.
Went to Fred Meyer last weekend and spent $42.05 (pictured above), stocked up on butter, eggs, blueberries and taco ingredients because we were making tacos for an extended family dinner. Luckily we already had a lot of items in our stockpile (salsa, chicken, sour cream, olives) but we needed cheese, lettuce, cilantro and soft tortillas to round out the meal. The most expensive items were the Weight Watcher ice cream bars, but we did use a $1/2 Weight Watchers frozen novelty coupon. Oh and my son picked out a bag of Sour Worms. I tried to sway him over to the Haribo gummy bears, since I had a $0.30/1 Haribo coupon, but he wasn’t having it. We’ve been getting about 3-4 eggs a day from our chicken coop, but picked up some eggs because we’re also did a breakfast with extended family this week.
I stopped into Safeway mid-week, to pick up some bananas and to scope out deals for you! I found some super deals which I reported and ended up picking up bananas – which 3 lbs rang up at $0.16/lb (not sure why?!) and 3.88/lbs rang up at $0.65/lb, Progresso Meal Starter (Free after-rebate) and $0.99 Tillamook plain yogurt, 32 oz, spending $7.15. But I’ll get $2 back by rebate, so my total will be only $5.15.
What we have been eating this week:
We were at the beach for four days at the beginning of the week – one night we made chicken tacos for the entire family the other two nights were handled by other family members. Since we’ve returned home we’ve been grilling a lot (garden burgers, hot dogs and hamburgers). I made slow cooker chicken taco soup – which we strained and served in taco shells for the kids, with a little cheese and shredded lettuce. Tonight we will have salad thanks to our garden and some grilled chicken. We’ve been eating the Tillamook yogurt, with Kashi granola and a tablespoon of honey (since it’s plain yogurt), for breakfast. Also for breakfast we like to make breakfast sandwiches with our english muffins from the Outlet store, Tillamook cheese and Canadian Bacon and eggs from the chickens. Along with the bananas in between! We’ve also been making smoothies using frozen strawberries, frozen bananas and a little milk or yogurt.
Spent so far in JULY – $237.52 (monthly budget $300 – it used to be $250, but as we started to eat less processed foods we moved to it to $300). Remaining for the month = $62.48
